Unfortunately, due to the cancellation of the 2026 ASA Victoria Accordion Festival, the Accordion Festival Video Competition will also not go ahead.

Showcase your accordion skills!

Join accordionists from across Australia and New Zealand in celebrating the diversity, creativity, and joy of accordion music. 

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced performer, we want to see how you bring the accordion to life by making your own accordion video. 

Entries close: Sunday 16 August 2026.

One overall winner will receive:

The winner will be announced on Thursday 29 August on our social channels and celebrated at the Accordion Festival on Saturday 12 September.

Eligibility

The competition is open to: 

  • Individuals aged 16 years and over 

  • Musicians of all skill levels 

  • Solo performers and groups 

  • Musicians in Australia and New Zealand 

Skill categories 

Please enter in one category only: 

  • Beginner: Up to 2 years of playing experience  

  • Intermediate: 3-5 years of playing experience  

  • Advanced: 6-10 years of playing experience  

  • Expert: 11+ years of playing experience or professional/semi-professional performers 

Years of playing experience should be calculated based on the total time spent learning and performing on the accordion. Groups should enter the category that best reflects the playing experience of the majority of their members. The organisers reserve the right to reassign entrants to a more appropriate category if required.

Video requirements

Create a video that: 

  • Is no longer than 3 minutes 

  • Features an accordion prominently 

  • Includes original accordion audio as a key component of the performance 

  • Is posted online on or after Saturday 27 June 2026 

  • Complies with all competition requirements and applicable platform guidelines 

Please note 

  • One entry per person or group 

  • Entries must be submitted in one skill category only 

  • AI-generated videos will not be accepted 

  • Offensive, inappropriate, or unlawful content will be disqualified

Need inspiration? 

Your video can showcase the accordion in any style, genre, or setting. We encourage creativity, originality, and a fresh perspective on the instrument. 

Ideas include: 

  • Put your own spin on a favourite cover song 

  • Perform an original composition 

  • Explore modern or cross-genre styles such as pop, jazz, electronic music, folk fusion, or world music 

  • Collaborate with other musicians or instruments 

  • Perform in an unexpected or unique location 

Tips for a great entry

To help your video stand out:

  • Use a vertical video format where possible 

  • Multi-take edits are welcome 

  • Captions, graphics, and text overlays are permitted 

  • Ensure audio quality is clear 

  • Keep your performance authentic and original

  • Make the accordion the focus of your performance

Judging

Entries will be assessed by a panel of judges with relevant musical expertise. 

Each entry will be scored against the following criteria: 

  • Musicality and expression: 25% 

  • Creativity and interpretation: 25% 

  • Technical ability: 25% 

  • Overall presentation: 25% 

Entries will be judged within their selected skill category to ensure fairness. 

All judging decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into. 

How to enter

Step 1: Create your video 

Record a video of up to 3 minutes in length that showcases the accordion as a central part of the performance. 

Step 2: Upload your video 

Upload your video to your own preferred platform, such as: 

  • Facebook 

  • Instagram 

  • YouTube 

Step 3: Submit your entry 

Submit your FREE entry by using the ‘Contact us’ form on the ASA website (select ‘VIC’ as the state) and include: 

  • Your name 

  • Skill category 

  • Contact details 

  • Your location (Australia or New Zealand) 

  • Link to your video

  • Tell us about your entry (a paragraph or two)
